No — at the quantities stated, and with proper rinsing of meat before cooking. Off-flavours only appear when you exceed the stated quantity or don't rinse meat completely. The parboiling and blanching concentrations are too low to leave any flavour in the finished dish.
Baking soda requires an acid to activate and produce CO₂. Without one, it remains inert and creates a bitter aftertaste. Buttermilk works best. If unavailable: add 1 tbsp white vinegar or lemon juice to 240ml milk and leave to curdle for 5 minutes. Plain yogurt thinned slightly with milk also works.
